VRBOVSKO, the second largest settlement in Gorski kotar, situated half way between Zagreb
and Rijeka is first mentioned in ancient 1481. On this 280 km2 territory live 6100 inhabitants in 60
settlements among which the most known are Vrbovsko, Moravice, Lukovdol, Severin na Kupi and Gomirje.
Rich history left precious monuments and great heritage which gives this area a special value.
The vegetation is very rich, large areas are covered in forests and the only audible sound is the roar of the
mighty rivers Kupa and Dobra, while the Kamačnik river peacefully slides through its canyon.
Kamačnik is protected landscape, a paysage of exceptional beauty. The path which leads along
3 km of this crystal pure liquid reveals to us the magic of hanging bridges, the rich flora and fauna.
A heaven on Earth for fun and recreation.
The Kupa river will offer you an exciting tourist experience - bathing, canoeing, riding a bike, fishing.
Here you will get to know the Oblikovna likovna radionica (the art work shop), see the protected rural
landscapes, and enjoy the view from the top of the Orlova stijena (the Eagle’s rock) and Litorić. You will also
visit Lukovdol - the home town of Ivan Goran Kovačić, a famous croatian poet. In Lukovdol you can visit a
museum, an amphitheatre, and churches of Holy virgin Mary an of saint Franjo Ksaverski, a very precious
monument from 17th century. In Lukovdol everything is different, sincere and warm.
A few kilometers away, in Severin na Kupi the castle of Zrinsko - Frankopan is situated. It dates from the
15th century.
In the center of Vrbovsko there is a church of saint Ivan Nepomuk - a little ‘’cathedral’’ of Gorski kotar and in
Gomirje you can see a monastery and a church Roždenija sv. Jovana Preteče. It is believed that the monastery
was founded in 1600., and in 19th century it became a part of history and a guardian of the past.
And in the end, don’t forget to visit Moravice. A walk by the little Čogrljevo lake will bring you back to
nature.
That is the best choice of Your vacation. Welcome!
